Introducing a Skype Caller

Using StudioEdge you can very easily introduce Skype callers into your productions.

NOTE: When incorporating a Skype caller into StudioEdge, the Skype meeting should be hosted and created on a separate control machine. Please avoid using the StudioEdge device for this.

The first thing you will need to do is log in to the StudioEdge portal and connect to the StudioEdge device you wish to use. If you are unsure on how to do this, please refer to the Quick start guide to QuickLink Studio Edge article.

Configuring a channel

Before initiating a Skype call, you will first need to configure the inputs and outputs of the channel you wish to use. If you have already configured your channel, please skip to the Initiating a Skype Call section.

To set the inputs you wish to return to your Skype caller, select the SETTINGS tab.

In the Video Input dropdown menu, select a the SDI input you would like to use (1 to 4, or NDI) depending on your workflow. Once selected, your video return will appear in the bottom return preview window.

Next you will need to select your Audio Input.

Your SDI and audio outputs are pre-configured depending on the channel you are using. These are displayed in the Video Output and Audio Output boxes.

In addition to the SDI outputs, you can also configure to simultaneously output to NDI, to achieve this, simply toggle the NDI Output option.

From your separate control PC/Skype TX device, you will still need to set your Skype call up using Skype TX as you usually would. For more information on that process, see here.

Once you have your guest in an active Skype TX call in any of your channels, they will appear in your StudioEdge interface.

You have now successfully introduced a Skype caller into your StudioEdge workflow.

Repeat this process for as many Skype, or other video conferencing callers you require.
