Glossary of terms

This article will explain labels, buttons, and status messages of the QuickLink ST2110 software interface.

Genlock / SFP tab

Acronyms

  • IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) — Hosts/routers protocol for joining/leaving IPv4 multicast groups.
  • SSM (Source-Specific Multicast) — Multicast model where receivers specify the exact source(s) to receive.
  • SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) — Pluggable optical/electrical transceiver module (the port/cage on the device).
  • PTP (Precision Time Protocol [IEEE 1588]) — Network clock sync used by SMPTE 2059/2110 systems.
  • DSCP (Differentiated Services Code Point) — QoS marking bits in the IP header to prioritize traffic.
  • ECN (Explicit Congestion Notification) — IP/TCP bits that signal congestion without dropping packets.
  • NMOS (Networked Media Open Specifications) — AMWA specs (IS-04/05 etc.) for discovery, registration, and control.
  • RDS (Registration & Discovery System) — NMOS registry service used when mDNS isn’t available/desired.
  • mDNS (Multicast DNS) — Zeroconf name/service discovery on local subnets (no central server).
  • SDP (Session Description Protocol) — Text description of media streams/parameters (e.g., for RTP).
  • RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) — Carries time-stamped audio/video packets over IP.
  • SSRC (Synchronization Source Identifier) — The RTP stream’s unique 32-bit ID.
  • VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) — Layer-2 segmentation using 802.1Q tagging.
  • VID (VLAN Identifier) — The numeric VLAN tag (1–4094) in 802.1Q.
  • PCP (Priority Code Point) — 802.1p priority level (0–7) inside the VLAN tag.
  • DEI (Drop Eligible Indicator) — 802.1Q bit indicating a frame can be dropped under congestion.
  • BMCA (Best Master Clock Algorithm) — PTP process that elects the grandmaster clock.
  • TTL (Time To Live) — Hop limit for IP packets.
  • PPM (Parts Per Million) — Units for tiny frequency offsets (e.g., genlock clock trim).
  • E2E (End-to-End [delay mechanism]) — PTP path-delay method measuring master↔slave directly.
  • P2P (Peer-to-Peer [delay mechanism]) — PTP path-delay method measuring hop-by-hop between neighbors.
  • SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) — Standards body behind ST 2110/2059.
  • ST 2110 (SMPTE Standard 2110) — IP transport for separate video (-20), audio (-30), ANC (-40) essences.
  • ST 2059 (SMPTE Standard 2059) — Profiles of PTP for broadcast timing and genlock over IP.
  • Rx (Receive) — Direction indicator (incoming stream/path).
  • Tx (Transmit) — Direction indicator (outgoing stream/path).
