Glossary of terms

This article will explain labels, buttons, and status messages of the QuickLink ST2110 software interface.

Genlock / SFP tab

 

Term Definition User Action or Effect
SMPTE-2110 Card(s) Selector for the installed I/O card used for 2110 operation. Choose specific card if multiple are present.
SFP Ports Dropdown to select which SFP cage/port to configure. Changes the active SFP port.
Genlock Source Selects the reference source for genlock. Changing re-locks timing to selected source.
Genlock Resolution Reference format used for genlock timing. Sets video format for genlock generator/receiver.
Enable Flywheel Allows free-run holdover when reference is lost. When enabled, device maintains timing during ref loss.
Flywheel max. unlock time (s) Maximum duration allowed without reference before action. Exceeding may trigger status change/fallback.
Flywheel max. recovery time (s) Time the system takes to re-stabilize after ref returns. Affects how quickly lock is declared again.
Enable Genlock Clock Offset Enables manual clock offset adjustment. Allows applying an offset to genlock clock.
Vertical delay (ns) Vertical timing offset in nanoseconds. Applies fine timing shift.
Vertical delay (pixels) Vertical timing offset in pixel lines. Applies coarse timing shift.
Genlock clock offset PPM Frequency offset applied to the genlock clock. Adjusts clock speed by parts-per-million.
Genlock Status Current genlock lock state. Read-only status field.
Termination Status Indicates whether genlock termination is applied. Read-only status field.
Genlock Termination Enables termination for reference input (if applicable). Toggles input termination.
Refresh Reloads current values from device. Discards unsaved changes and fetches live status.
Apply Commits changes to the device. Writes current settings; restart StudioEdge/Pro to apply updated settings.
SFP Settings Section for basic IP configuration of the SFP port. N/A
IPv4 Address IP address assigned to the SFP interface. Reads address from NIC adapter. Settings needs to be changed from adapter. Read-only.
IPv4 Gateway Default gateway for routing. Reads address from NIC adapter. Settings needs to be changed from adapter. Read-only.
IPv4 Netmask Subnet mask for the interface. Reads subnet size from NIC adapter. Settings needs to be changed from adapter. Read-only.
Virtual LAN Enables VLAN tagging on the interface. When checked, VLAN options appear/apply.
Virtual LAN Tag DEI Drop Eligible Indicator bit in VLAN tag. Sets DEI flag behavior.
Virtual LAN Tag PCP Priority Code Point for VLAN QoS. Sets 802.1p priority.
Virtual LAN Tag VID VLAN identifier for tagged frames. Sets VLAN ID.
SFP STATUS Presence/health of SFP module. Read-only.
SFP SIGNAL Optical/electrical signal detect state. Read-only.
SFP Tx ERROR Transmit error indicator for SFP. Read-only.
SFP SMPTE-2059 Settings Section for PTP/2059 timing over IP on SFP. N/A
Enable DHCP Enables DHCP to auto-assign IP settings. Overrides static fields when enabled.
Delay Mechanism PTP delay measurement method. Selects mechanism used by PTP.
IP Mode Transport mode for control/timing traffic. Select unicast/multicast behavior.
Type of service DSCP DSCP value for QoS marking. Sets ToS/DSCP byte.
IGMP Join Type IGMP version used for multicast joins. Affects multicast membership reports.
Filter (Exclusion/List) IGMP source filter mode and list. Configure SSM include/exclude sources.
Master clk domain num. PTP domain number for SMPTE‑2059. Must match network PTP domain.
Announce receipt timeout PTP BMCA timeout for announce messages. Controls failover responsiveness.
Best Master Selection BMCA preference setting. Influences grandmaster election.
2059 Status Current SMPTE‑2059/PTP state. Read-only.
Best Master Clock SFP Port currently considered best master. Read-only.
Best Master Clock ID Clock identity of current best master. Read-only.
Grand Master Clock ID Clock identity of the grandmaster. Read-only.

 

Senders & Receivers

Traffic light system

 

Term Definition User Action or Effect
Live(Red) Shows senders and receivers that are currently active and carrying an established SMPTE ST 2110 stream. Select to filter the list and display only senders and receivers that are currently live.
Ready (Orange) Shows senders and receivers that are configured and available, but are not currently carrying an active stream. Select to filter the list and display devices that are ready to be activated or routed.
Standby (Green) Shows senders and receivers that are available but currently placed in a standby or reserved state. Select to filter the list and display devices that are waiting to become active.
Inactive (Inactive) Shows senders and receivers that are disabled, unavailable, unconfigured, or not currently operational. Select to filter the list and display only inactive senders and receivers.
 

 

Input Video / Input Audio

Term Definition User Action or Effect
Search Searches the list of available video and audio senders and receivers. Enter part of a sender or receiver name to limit the items displayed in the list.
Status filters Filters senders and receivers according to their current operational status: Live, Ready, Standby, or Inactive. Select or clear the coloured filter checkboxes to show or hide resources with the corresponding status. These controls do not change the resource’s operational state.
Input Video Contains the available SMPTE ST 2110 video receivers. Expand the section and select a video input to view or modify its configuration.
Input Audio Contains the available SMPTE ST 2110 audio receivers. Expand the section and select an audio input to view or modify its configuration.
Configure Displays the name of the sender or receiver currently selected for configuration. Select a resource from the list to open its settings.
Label Sets the descriptive name used to identify the selected sender or receiver. Enter a clear, unique name. The label may be advertised to NMOS controllers and shown in other management interfaces.
Enable Flow Enables or disables the selected SMPTE ST 2110 sender or receiver flow. Enable to allow the resource to transmit or receive media. Disable to stop the flow from operating.
Primary Flow Displays the current state of the primary network path. Read-only. A green tick indicates that the primary flow is operating correctly. A warning symbol indicates a problem or incomplete configuration.
Secondary Flow Displays the current state of the redundant secondary network path. Read-only. A green tick indicates that the secondary flow is operating correctly. A warning symbol indicates that redundancy is unavailable or not operating correctly.
Destination IP – Primary Specifies the destination multicast or unicast IP address used by the primary flow. For an input, this is the address from which the receiver accepts the stream. Enter the primary stream address defined by the network design or SDP.
Port – Primary Specifies the UDP port used by the primary RTP stream. Enter the port number used by the sender and receiver. The value must match the stream configuration and SDP.
Packet Interval Threshold – Primary Sets the maximum permitted interval between expected RTP packets on the primary flow before a packet-timing warning or error is reported. Enter the required threshold value. Change it only when required by the stream format or network design.
IGMP Filter – Primary Selects how source addresses are filtered when joining the primary multicast stream. Select the required IGMP filter mode, such as Inclusion, according to the multicast configuration.
IGMP Filter IP List – Primary Lists the permitted or excluded source IP addresses used by the primary IGMP filter. Enter the source IP address or addresses associated with the required multicast sender. Up to four addresses can be configured.
Enable Redundancy Enables a secondary SMPTE ST 2022-7 network path for the selected flow. Enable to configure and use a redundant secondary stream. Disable when only a single network path is required.
Destination IP – Secondary Specifies the destination multicast or unicast IP address used by the redundant secondary flow. Enter an address that is separate from the primary flow and belongs to the secondary network path.
Port – Secondary Specifies the UDP port used by the redundant secondary RTP stream. Enter the port number used by the secondary sender and receiver. It may match the primary port where the network design permits it.
Packet Interval Threshold – Secondary Sets the maximum permitted interval between expected RTP packets on the secondary flow. Enter the threshold required for the redundant stream. It will normally match the primary flow setting.
IGMP Filter – Secondary Selects how source addresses are filtered when joining the secondary multicast stream. Select the required IGMP filter mode for the secondary path.
IGMP Filter IP List – Secondary Lists the permitted or excluded source IP addresses used by the secondary IGMP filter. Enter the source IP address or addresses associated with the redundant multicast sender. Up to four addresses can be configured.
IGMP Join Type Selects the IGMP version used when joining IPv4 multicast groups. Select the IGMP version supported by the network, such as IGMPv3. IGMPv3 is normally required for Source-Specific Multicast.
RTP Payload Filtering Enables filtering of received RTP packets by payload type. Enable when the receiver must accept only packets containing the specified RTP payload type.
RTP Payload ID Specifies the RTP payload-type number associated with the selected media stream. Enter the dynamic payload ID defined by the sender or SDP. The sender and receiver values must match.
Selected Channels Selects which audio channels from the incoming SMPTE ST 2110-30 stream are used by the receiver. Choose the required audio channel or channel pair, such as 1–2. This setting applies to audio inputs.
Default Values Restores the displayed configuration fields to their application defaults. Select to reset the current settings. Review the restored values before applying or resending the configuration.
Refresh Reloads the current configuration and status of the selected sender or receiver. Select to retrieve the latest settings from the device. Unsaved changes may be replaced.
Resend Reapplies or retransmits the displayed sender or receiver configuration to the selected resource. Select after changing settings to send the configuration to the device.
Restart Restarts the selected sender or receiver flow. Select to stop and restart the resource so that its configuration is reinitialised. This may temporarily interrupt video or audio.

 Output Video / Output Audio

Term Definition User Action or Effect
Output Video Contains the available SMPTE ST 2110 video senders. Expand the section and select a video output to view or modify its configuration.
Output Audio Contains the available SMPTE ST 2110 audio senders. Expand the section and select an audio output to view or modify its configuration.
Configure Displays the name of the output currently selected for configuration. Select an output from the list to open its settings.
Label Sets the descriptive name used to identify the selected sender. Enter a clear, unique name. The label may also be advertised to NMOS controllers.
Enable Flow Enables or disables the primary SMPTE ST 2110 output stream. Enable to transmit the primary video or audio flow. Disable to stop transmission.
Destination IP – Primary Specifies the multicast or unicast IP address to which the primary RTP stream is transmitted. Enter the destination address required by the receiving device or network design.
Port – Primary Specifies the UDP destination port used by the primary RTP stream. Enter the port expected by the receiver. The value must match the SDP and receiver configuration.
Enable Redundancy Enables a secondary redundant output path, normally used for SMPTE ST 2022-7 protection. Enable to transmit a second copy of the stream over a separate network path.
Destination IP – Secondary Specifies the multicast or unicast destination address for the redundant secondary stream. Enter an address assigned to the secondary network path. It should normally differ from the primary destination address.
Port – Secondary Specifies the UDP destination port used by the redundant secondary RTP stream. Enter the secondary destination port. It may match the primary port where permitted by the network design.
RTP Payload ID Specifies the RTP payload-type number assigned to the media stream. Enter the dynamic payload ID expected by the receiver and defined in the SDP. Video commonly uses a different payload ID from audio.
RTP Sync Source Identifier Sets the RTP Synchronisation Source identifier, known as the SSRC. It identifies the RTP source within the session. Enter a valid SSRC value where a fixed identifier is required. Ensure that each active RTP source uses a unique SSRC.
Type of service DSCP Sets the Explicit Congestion Notification value in the IP header. Enter the ECN value required by the network design. Leave at the default unless ECN is specifically supported and configured.
Time To Live Sets the IPv4 Time To Live value, which limits how many routed network hops the stream may traverse. Enter a value appropriate for the network. A higher value allows the multicast stream to cross more routed hops.
Default Values Restores the displayed sender settings to their application defaults. Select to reset the current fields. Review the values before resending the configuration.
Refresh Reloads the current configuration and status of the selected output. Select to retrieve the latest settings from the device. Unsaved changes may be replaced.
SDP Opens or provides the Session Description Protocol information for the selected sender. Select to view, copy, or export the SDP required to configure a compatible receiver.
Resend Reapplies the displayed configuration to the selected sender. Select after changing settings to send the updated configuration to the device.
Restart Stops and restarts the selected sender flow. Select to reinitialise the output. Transmission will be interrupted temporarily.

Configure NMOS Section for NMOS (IS‑04/05) discovery/control settings. Configure adapters, ports, discovery fallbacks.
Cards Selects the installed I/O card being configured. Changes the active hardware context.
Enable NMOS Enables NMOS services on the device. Starts/stops NMOS discovery & control.
NMOS Adapter(s) Network adapter(s) used by NMOS services. Choose specific NIC or all adapters.
NMOS Port (local) Local HTTP port for NMOS node API. Sets listening port (e.g., 50000).
Fallback RDS Settings (if mDNS fails) Manual registry/discovery server used when mDNS is unavailable. Provides IP/port for RDS fallback.
RDS IP IP address of the registry/discovery service. Used when mDNS discovery fails.
RDS Port TCP port of the registry/discovery service. Used when mDNS fails.
Default Values Loads factory/default values for the current block. Resets inputs to defaults (not saved until Save is clicked).
Refresh Reloads live values from the device for the current block. Discards unsaved edits in that block.
Save Writes the current block’s settings to the device. Commits changes.
Other Settings Section for miscellaneous configuration. N/A

Installation Tab

Term Definition User Action or Effect
Install Matrox driver Launches the installer for the supported Matrox driver required by the SMPTE ST 2110 hardware. Select to install or update the Matrox driver. A system restart may be required after installation.
Install StudioEdge v4.4.3 Launches the installer for the displayed version of QuickLink StudioEdge. Select to install or update StudioEdge to the specified version.
Install Diagnostic Tools Installs the diagnostic utilities used to test, monitor, or troubleshoot the SMPTE ST 2110 system. Select to install the available diagnostic tools on the local computer.
Install NMOS Demo Server Installs an NMOS demonstration server for local testing of registration, discovery, and control workflows. Select to install the demo server when creating or testing an NMOS environment. It is intended primarily for testing rather than production use.
Install NMOS Controller Installs an NMOS controller used to discover and manage compatible NMOS senders and receivers. Select to install the controller for testing device discovery and connection management.
Downloads Opens the location containing additional installers, utilities, or downloadable support files. Select to view the available QuickLink ST 2110 downloads. An internet connection may be required.
Backup SFP Settings Saves the current SFP A and SFP B network settings for all detected cards, including IP address, subnet mask, and gateway. Select before changing network or SMPTE ST 2110 settings. The saved values can later be reviewed or restored.
Show/Restore SFP Settings Displays the previously saved SFP settings and provides an option to restore them to the relevant network interfaces and SMPTE 2059 configuration. Select to review the saved settings and restore them when required. Administrative privileges may be needed to apply network changes.
Backup configuration Creates a backup of the current QuickLink ST 2110 configuration and saves it as a registry backup file. Select to choose a filename and save the current configuration. Backing up is recommended before making significant changes.
Restore configuration Imports a previously saved QuickLink ST 2110 configuration backup and reapplies the stored configuration. Select a valid backup file to restore the configuration. Associated SFP and SMPTE 2059 settings may also be reapplied.
QuickLink ST 2110 Config. Updates Displays the update status of the QuickLink ST 2110 Configuration application. Review this section to determine whether a newer application version is available.
No updates available Indicates that no newer version of the QuickLink ST 2110 Configuration application has been detected. No action is required. Check again later for future updates.
Update available Indicates that a newer version of the QuickLink ST 2110 Configuration application is available. Select the associated update control to download or install the newer version.
Refresh update status Checks again for an available QuickLink ST 2110 Configuration application update. Select the refresh button beside the update status to perform a new update check. An internet connection may be required.

Power Tab

Term Definition User Action or Effect
Restart StudioEdge Stops and then restarts the StudioEdge application or service. Select to restart StudioEdge. Active SMPTE ST 2110 inputs and outputs may be interrupted while the application restarts.
Shutdown StudioEdge Stops the StudioEdge application or service without restarting it. Select to shut down StudioEdge. Active SMPTE ST 2110 inputs and outputs will stop and remain unavailable until StudioEdge is started again.

Acronyms

  • IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) — Hosts/routers protocol for joining/leaving IPv4 multicast groups.
  • SSM (Source-Specific Multicast) — Multicast model where receivers specify the exact source(s) to receive.
  • SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) — Pluggable optical/electrical transceiver module (the port/cage on the device).
  • PTP (Precision Time Protocol [IEEE 1588]) — Network clock sync used by SMPTE 2059/2110 systems.
  • DSCP (Differentiated Services Code Point) — QoS marking bits in the IP header to prioritize traffic.
  • ECN (Explicit Congestion Notification) — IP/TCP bits that signal congestion without dropping packets.
  • NMOS (Networked Media Open Specifications) — AMWA specs (IS-04/05 etc.) for discovery, registration, and control.
  • RDS (Registration & Discovery System) — NMOS registry service used when mDNS isn’t available/desired.
  • mDNS (Multicast DNS) — Zeroconf name/service discovery on local subnets (no central server).
  • SDP (Session Description Protocol) — Text description of media streams/parameters (e.g., for RTP).
  • RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) — Carries time-stamped audio/video packets over IP.
  • SSRC (Synchronization Source Identifier) — The RTP stream’s unique 32-bit ID.
  • VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) — Layer-2 segmentation using 802.1Q tagging.
  • VID (VLAN Identifier) — The numeric VLAN tag (1–4094) in 802.1Q.
  • PCP (Priority Code Point) — 802.1p priority level (0–7) inside the VLAN tag.
  • DEI (Drop Eligible Indicator) — 802.1Q bit indicating a frame can be dropped under congestion.
  • BMCA (Best Master Clock Algorithm) — PTP process that elects the grandmaster clock.
  • TTL (Time To Live) — Hop limit for IP packets.
  • PPM (Parts Per Million) — Units for tiny frequency offsets (e.g., genlock clock trim).
  • E2E (End-to-End [delay mechanism]) — PTP path-delay method measuring master↔slave directly.
  • P2P (Peer-to-Peer [delay mechanism]) — PTP path-delay method measuring hop-by-hop between neighbors.
  • SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) — Standards body behind ST 2110/2059.
  • ST 2110 (SMPTE Standard 2110) — IP transport for separate video (-20), audio (-30), ANC (-40) essences.
  • ST 2059 (SMPTE Standard 2059) — Profiles of PTP for broadcast timing and genlock over IP.
  • Rx (Receive) — Direction indicator (incoming stream/path).
  • Tx (Transmit) — Direction indicator (outgoing stream/path).
