When you first open StudioPro, by default it will have the MIDI bindings and actions already configured to use with our very own QuickLink StudioPro HPC10 MIDI panel. This means that you can start using the panel straight out of the box!
That doesn't mean that you can't use your own MIDI compatible controller though. You will need to configure it yourself though. We'll cover this further down in the article.
Before you begin, make sure that your MIDI device is plugged in via USB and then open StudioPro.
To access the MIDI configuration, open the settings window by clicking the icon.
Then select the Advanced tab.
Scroll all the way to the bottom where you will see Midi Settings.
By default you will see the bindings that can be used with the QuickLink MIDI controller. If you are using the QuickLink controller, you should be able to get started right away with no setup other than plugging the device into your system! If for some reason, you do not see your device or any bindings, contact our dedicated support team via support@quicklink.tv.
At the top you can select up to 3 transitions to set for when you press Auto 1, 2 or 3 on your controller.
Underneath that are your bindings. This list shows you all the different actions you can perform using your MIDI controller. Click on one to see and/or change the MIDI information.
The next section allows you to see and select which MIDI device you would like to use to control QuickLink StudioPro. You can also create, copy and delete bindings.
Right at the bottom of the page you can set you Preferences, such as how bindings are transferred. You can also export the bindings you have setup here or even import some that you have created on another system.
If you are using your own MIDI device then you will need to create your bindings. Firstly, make sure your device is connected to your StudioPro unit and then select it from the Active Device dropdown menu.
Click Create Binding.
It's probably wise to give your binding a friendly name. Double click it to edit.
You should see some default MIDI information come up. You can select the Type yourself if you know what sort of control you want to use but once you adjust the element in question, it should change to match the correct type (just double check to make sure it's what you want to use afterwards). In order to assign an action to a fader, knob or button, you will need to click Listen Once... then press the button, move the fader or twist the knob on your MIDI controller.
You should see that information change. This is telling you the MIDI information for that particular element. In this example, the main volume fader on my behringer X-Touch Compact.
All this appears to be correct apart from the fact that the Value has defaulted to fixed. It's quite likely with a fader you will want this set to 0-127 so you can control the volume incrementally. Click where it says Fixed and select 0-127 from the dropdown menu.
Now you need to choose what you want that MIDI information to control. Click the left hand None in the red box.
From here you can select the type of change you want to affect. In this example we're going to choose, Audio Sources.
Now select how you want to affect that action.
Select the actual source you wish to affect.
Again, it's quite likely you'll want this to be 0-127 not Fixed if it's to control volume with a fader so, select that.
You should now be able to control your main volume with the fader on your MIDI controller.
Repeat this process for all the actions you wish to control. These can be anything from muting and unmuting sources, changing scenes, starting/stopping recording or streaming etc.
Hopefully that's enough to get you started but if you do need more information or help then don't hesitate to get in touch with support team on support@quicklink.tv
