Introducing a WhatsApp Caller in StudioEdge (BETA)

Please note: WhatsApp calling is currently a Beta feature and requires StudioEdge 4.5.0 or later. If your StudioEdge is older than the required version, WhatsApp will be greyed out in the caller menu.

With StudioEdge™ you can easily introduce WhatsApp callers into your productions. Each caller channel has its own WhatsApp login, so different channels can use different WhatsApp numbers.

Before you start: You will need a phone with WhatsApp installed and signed in. You link this phone to the StudioEdge caller channel by scanning a QR code.

Initiating a WhatsApp Call

The first thing you will need to do is log in to the StudioEdge portal (edge.quicklink.network) and connect to the StudioEdge device you wish to use. If you are unsure on how to do this, please refer to the Quick Start Guide to QuickLink StudioEdge article.

To add a WhatsApp caller, click the call button ( call.png ), then select WhatsApp (Beta) from the available platforms.

The tile will show "Starting..." while StudioPro prepares WhatsApp.

Linking Your WhatsApp Account

If the channel is not yet linked, the Configure WhatsApp window opens with a QR code. It may show "Loading QR..." for a few seconds first.

On a phone signed in to your WhatsApp account, follow the steps in the window: scan the QR code, tap the link to open WhatsApp, then scan the QR code again to link your account.

Configure WhatsApp window (QR code hidden)

When your phone shows the link is complete, click DONE. The tile header now shows your WhatsApp number and a Logout link, and the tile shows the Call Link... field with the HOST and JOIN buttons.

CLOSE or DONE? DONE closes the window and keeps WhatsApp on the channel. CLOSE removes the WhatsApp caller from the channel.

The QR code refreshes every 20 seconds or so. If the window says "Could not display the QR code. Waiting for a new one...", wait for the next code.

If the channel is already linked, the Configure WhatsApp window does not open and you can go straight to hosting or joining a call.

Hosting a WhatsApp Call and Inviting a Guest

Click HOST to start a new WhatsApp call. Once the call is up, a Copy Invite Link link appears in the tile header, which you can use to copy the call link and share it yourself.

To invite a guest directly, choose the guest's country from the list, enter their number in WhatsApp number and click SEND INVITE.

The tile now shows "Waiting for guest to join".

Tile showing Waiting for guest to join

Your guest receives a WhatsApp message from your linked account that reads "<your company> has invited you to join a WhatsApp call. Tap the link below to join:", followed by the link.

Once your guest taps the link and joins, returning to the StudioEdge preview window, you will see your guest's video and audio.

Joining an Existing WhatsApp Call

Paste the WhatsApp call link into Call Link... and click JOIN. The tile shows "Joining call...", and the caller's video appears once StudioEdge has joined.

You have now successfully introduced a WhatsApp caller into your StudioEdge workflow. From here you can apply AI-powered Features to further enhance the video and audio quality.

If You Refresh the Page

StudioEdge remembers each channel's WhatsApp call and login. After a refresh, the tile returns to where it was. The call itself runs in StudioPro, so refreshing StudioEdge does not end it.

Ending the Call

To end the call, click the end call button. StudioEdge leaves the WhatsApp call straight away. There is no confirmation.

To log out, click Logout in the tile header. The channel is logged out of WhatsApp and the tile returns to the unassigned state. You will need to scan a new QR code to use it again.

To remove WhatsApp from the channel, click the eject button below the video area.
