Introducing a Cisco Webex Caller in StudioEdge

Please note: Cisco Webex callers require StudioEdge 4.5.0 or later. If your StudioEdge is older than the required version, Webex will be greyed out in the caller menu.

With StudioEdge™ you can easily introduce high-quality Webex callers into your productions. Each caller channel can take one Webex caller.

Before you start: You will need a Webex account. Make sure pop-ups are allowed for the StudioEdge site in your web browser, as Webex sign-in opens in a new browser tab

Initiating a Webex Call

The first thing you will need to do is log in to the StudioEdge portal (edge.quicklink.network) and connect to the StudioEdge device you wish to use. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to the Quick Start Guide to QuickLink StudioEdge article.

To add a Webex caller, click the call button ( call.png ), then select Webex from the available platforms.

Connecting Your Webex Account

Once you have assigned your channel to Webex, click CONNECT WEBEX. The Webex sign-in page opens in a new tab, and the button will display "WAITING...".

Sign in to Webex if prompted, then click Accept to allow access. If you are already signed in to Webex in your browser, the access request appears straight away.

Return to the StudioEdge user interface. The channel will now shows your Webex email address and a Logout link, and the tile shows the Meeting Link... field with the HOST and JOIN buttons.

If the button goes back to CONNECT WEBEX, sign-in did not finish. Check that pop-ups are allowed for StudioEdge and try again. StudioEdge waits up to 3 minutes for you to sign in.

Hosting or Joining a Webex Meeting

There are two ways to bring your StudioEdge into a Webex meeting.

To host a meeting, click HOST. StudioEdge opens your Webex Personal Room. The button shows HOSTING... until the room is ready.

To join an existing meeting, paste the Webex meeting link into Meeting Link... and click JOIN.

Once StudioEdge is in the meeting, the tile shows the participant list, the ADD CALLER button, a Disconnect link and a Copy Invite Link link.

To invite your guest, click Copy Invite Link and send them the meeting link.

Putting a Webex Caller on Air

Once your guest has joined the meeting, the tile lists the people in the meeting, along with None and Active Speaker. Click the refresh icon to update the list.

Depending on your Webex meeting settings, the list may show Waiting in lobby.... This means StudioEdge is waiting to be let in, and the meeting host must admit it.

Click the person you want to bring into your production, then click ADD CALLER.

Returning to the StudioEdge preview window, you will see your guest's video and audio.

You have now successfully introduced a Webex caller into your StudioEdge workflow. From here you can apply AI-powered Features to further enhance the video and audio quality.

If You Refresh the Page

StudioEdge remembers each channel's Webex meeting and sign-in. After a refresh, the tile returns to where it was, including a caller who is on air. The meeting itself runs in StudioPro, so refreshing StudioEdge does not end it.

Ending the Call

To take the caller off air, click the end call button, then END CALL to confirm. StudioEdge stays in the meeting, so you can choose another person from the list.

To leave the meeting, click Disconnect under the participant list, then DISCONNECT to confirm.

StudioEdge leaves the meeting, but the tile keeps the meeting link and the JOIN button now reads RECONNECT. Click RECONNECT to go back into the same meeting.

To finish with the meeting completely, click the end call button on the tile, then DISCONNECT to confirm. The tile returns to the HOST and JOIN buttons and stays signed in to Webex.

To sign out, click Logout in the tile header. Your Webex account is signed out of this channel and the meeting ends.

To remove Webex from the channel, click the eject button below the video area.
