Quick start guide to QuickLink StudioEdge

Within this article, you'll learn how to get started with QuickLink StudioEdge™ in just four easy steps!

Step 1: Launching and logging into QuickLink StudioEdge™

Firstly, you will need to log in to the QuickLink StudioEdge web interface. Visit the QuickLink StudioEdge login (edge.quicklink.network), enter your QuickLink Studio username and password, then press Login.

If you do not already have a QuickLink Studio user, click Create an account and follow the steps to create a new account. Detailed instructions for creating an account can be found here.

Once logged in, you will enter the StudioEdge Dashboard, where you will find your connected StudioEdge devices.

If you’ve just created your account or haven’t registered your StudioEdge hardware yet, sign in with the same details you used at signup to register the device in the StudioEdge portal. If you have already registered your StudioEdge hardware, please feel free to skip to Step 2: Setting up your inputs.

Access the desktop of your StudioEdge device, and run the QuickLink StudioEdge application.

Before the software launches, you will be prompted to enter your log in credentials, and be given the option for some additional settings. This may look slightly different depending on the StudioEdge model you have.

On a StudioEdge-2, StudioEdge-4 & StudioEdge-2110, you will have the following options:

  • Video Format: the base resolution and frame rate of your StudioEdge.
  • Separate Channels: option to separate channels for an additional level of control and flexibility. Useful when assigning a single channel to different productions or operators. More information on the separation of channels can be found, here.

Enter your QuickLink Studio login information, then click sign-in. If you have created your credentials as part of this guide, use these same login details.

Returning to your StudioEdge web interface (edge.quicklink.network), you should now see your StudioEdge device listed. Click Connect on the StudioEdge device you would like to connect. Please note. If you do not see your system here please reboot the system and it should appear.

Once connected, you will be presented with the StudioEdge control interface. Here you can see your Caller options (channels) which can be configured to any of the three following solutions; StudioCall, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom. They could be a mixture of platforms, or all a single video conferencing platform (i.e. Zoom). For a full breakdown on the elements of the StudioEdge, please refer to the Overview of the StudioEdge user interface article.

Step 2: Setting up your inputs

Your inputs are the devices that will act as the video and audio return to your remote callers. On the channel you wish to add your first caller, click SETTINGS.

In the Video Input dropdown menu, select the SDI (or HDMI if configured on StudioEdge-1) input you would like to use (P1, P2, P3, P4, or NDI) depending on your workflow and StudioEdge model. Once selected, your video return will appear in the bottom return preview window.

Next you will need to select your Audio Input.

You will also have the option to toggle Embedded Audio and External Audio,

  1. Embedded Audio toggle
    • What it does: Turns on/off the audio that’s carried inside your video stream (e.g. SDI or HDMI-embedded).
    • Use-case: If you want to pass through the audio that’s already tied to your camera feed, leave this ON; if you’re only using a separate mic/mixer, switch it OFF.
  2. External Audio toggle
    • What it does: Enables/disables the separate audio path you’ve chosen under “External Audio Input” (e.g. your Dante, AES67, Analog etc.).
    • Use-case: If you need a clean, dedicated mic or line-level feed instead of embedded audio, turn this ON; if you don’t, turn it OFF.

Step 3: Setting up your outputs

Your SDI/HDMI and audio outputs are pre-configured depending on the channel you are using. These are displayed in the Video Output and Audio Output windows.

In addition to the SDI/HDMI outputs, you can also configure to simultaneously output to NDI, to achieve this, simply toggle the NDI Output option.

From here, you can also control the Audio Gain of your callers, giving you real-time control over the level of the incoming caller audio. With this option, you can very quickly raise or lower your guest’s volume without having to dive into a mixer or DSP. It’s great for evening audio levels on the fly, compensating for a quiet cell-phone caller, or taming an overly hot feed.

Step 4: Adding a caller

Now you are ready to introduce your remote callers. Click the Call button ( call.png ), then select the video conferencing platform you would like to assign the channel; StudioCall, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom.

You will need to invite your guests as usual, this workflow is slightly different depending on the platform you are using. For instructions on each of the available platforms, please refer to the following articles:
