Tips for the contributor
- Always try and use a network cable when possible.
- If using a wireless or mobile connection, try to achieve 3 signal bars (over
75%). Moving as close to the Wi-Fi router or phone mast as possible will
help increase the signal strength.
- Close all other apps to optimise your computer/mobile performance.
- Make a test call to adjust any lighting or shadows.
- If using a mobile device, use a stand/tripod or ‘prop’ the device in a static
position to minimise the amount of camera sway.
- When in the call, try to minimise the amount of head and hand
movements in the frame.
- Consider the background before making a call, any moving objects such as
swaying trees or cars will affect the quality.
- Improve the audio by wearing a headset or earphones.
- Think about disconnecting other devices that are connected to the same
network which are sharing the bandwidth. Such as other computers,
mobiles, tablets, game consoles etc.
- Ensure your laptop/device is in a full performance mode. On mobile,
make sure your device isn’t in ‘Low Power Mode’ or ‘Battery Saver’, this
could severely affect the performance of the device. On a laptop device,
make sure the laptop is fully charged and connected to a power source.
Tips for Quicklink Manager administrator
- Before making a call, ask your contributor to test their available
bandwidth so you are aware of the available upload and download data
rate. Set the data rate to less than the available data rate of the caller.
- When selecting your data rate think about any potential factors that can
affect the bandwidth and leave an ‘Overhead’ to compensate these.
For example for a 10Mb/s line - select a bandwidth of around 8Mb/s.
- In the Quicklink Manager, create a Pro room and set a playout buffer
(added latency) to compensate for any network issues. The buffer will
increase the resiliency of the receiving call.
